Overview

Registration for Fall

Registration for our 2020 Fall season is "on hold" during California's Shelter-in-Place; please check back July 1

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a lot of uncertainty around the Hillsborough Fall AYSO 2020 season. The season may range from a typical format, to small sided games, to being completely canceled. At this time, we do not know what soccer will look like. We know that so many of you are eager for your child(ren) to be active and outside again, and we want to provide the opportunity for them to play soccer in the fall, but only if feasible and safe. Considerations include San Mateo County orders, guidelines from the CDC and field availability.

If you are interested in playing in the Fall 2020 season, please register now - you will be placed on a waitlist and no payment will be collected at this time. This will allow us to assess interest and whether we can support a season, should we be able to have one.  The Hillsborough AYSO Board will make a decision whether to proceed with the season roughly by July 1st.  Assuming we will proceed with a season, parents will be notified by early July to make payment ASAP so their player can be assigned to a team.

To register your child(ren) for the Fall Season (waitlist only) click “Register Now”  HERE. You will NOT be charged at this time.

Division Placement

The 5U division is co-ed.  All other age divisions are divided into two groups (boys and girls). Team sizes may vary when teams are formed depending on player headcount and availability of coaches.  Players have grouped into divisions according to their birth year since 2017.  Divisions have different numbers of players on a team ("Team Size" in the table below) and different numbers of players on the field during a game ("Game Size" in the table below.)

Please email this request and include justification along with the child's height, weight, relative speed and aggressiveness compared to his or her peers.  Play-Up / Play-Down requests will be considered only if space is available in the requested age division.

Upper Division Conduct Policy

Players are required to demonstrate good sporting behavior at all AYSO events.  This includes practices as well as games.  In recent years we have seen a growing incidence of unacceptable conduct in the upper divisions, for example: use of profanity or epithets, taunting another team when Hillsborough is far ahead in score, and persistent disruption at practices.  To address this issue, the Hillsborough AYSO Board has approved the following measures which began with the Fall 2017 season.  These measures are intended to ensure that all AYSO participants have the chance to enjoy soccer in a positive sporting environment.

For the 16U and 19U divisions, draft team rosters will be subject to review and approval by a committee of the Hillsborough AYSO Board.  Players who have demonstrated recurrent unacceptable conduct will not be invited to play and will have their registration fees refunded.

For all 14U, 16U and 19U divisions, the following sanctions for unacceptable conduct will be implemented:

  • Coaches should remind players that participation in AYSO is a privilege, not an entitlement.
  • Any player who receives a yellow card related to unacceptable conduct will be required to sit a game before being allowed to play again.  To satisfy this requirement the player must attend one game and remain on the bench for the entire game.  Attendance must be noted by the referee on the game card.
  • Any player who receives a red card related to unacceptable conduct will be suspended immediately and not permitted to play unless approved by the Regional Commissioner.
  • Coaches are required to report persistently disruptive behavior or unacceptable conduct at practices to the Regional Commissioner.  The Regional Commissioner may suspend offending players.
