In response to recent years' problems with California wildfires leading to health related Air Quality concerns, Hillsborough AYSO has adopted a safety policy this year to notify teams on practice and game days if the Air Quality is deemed unsafe for high exertion activities. Please see below:
AQI below 100 - practice/game with no modifications.
AQI between 101-149 - modifications should be made by the Coach/Referee to allow for extra breaks. All families should exercise their own discretion and determine whether or not it is appropriate for the player to participate in outdoor activity.
AQI greater than 150 - no outdoor practices or games held.
For reference, HCSD, along with all school districts in San Mateo County, uses two sources to track air quality: the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) website, AirNow.gov, and Bay Area Air Quality Management District, BAAQMD.gov.
